A bit about us...

Ashville House is a residential home for the elderly situated in the quiet country town of Downham Market on the edge of the Fens and within easy reach of Kings Lynn, Ely, Wisbech and Peterborough. The home is within walking distance of shops, as well as the river, local beauty spots and a trainline that runs between Kings Lynn and London Kings Cross.

Ashville is registered to provide care for elderly residents who need support to help them care for themselves as well as those who are highly dependent and need help or total assistance with all their personal and social care. All residents have an individual care plan which is regularly updated in consultation with the resident and their family or representative.

The house is double-glazed and centrally heated and is designed to accommodate 51 residents in 47 single and 2 double rooms. All of the three lounges and the dining room look out on to landscaped gardens which are easily accessible and include an ornamental fish pond, gazebo and a walled patio garden. For the last 5 years we have won the best Downham Market communal garden award.

The staff of Ashville House want the residents to feel welcome, comfortable and relaxed. Residents should be able to feel that their room is their own private place.

The accommodation is arranged on ground and first floor levels and there is an eight person lift for residents who find stairs difficult. The rooms are very comfortably furnished and residents are encouraged to bring their favourite pieces of furniture, ornaments and pictures to make their stay as homely as possible. All rooms have a wash-hand basin, central heating, electronic smoke detectors, and a TV and telephone point. Most of the rooms have en-suite facilities and newer rooms have broadband connections. Every resident has their own personal call system for emergencies in the house or out in the garden.

Visitors are always welcome and light refreshments are available to guests. If a resident would like a guest to stay for lunch or tea, this can be arranged at minimal notice.

At Ashville House we have a varied programme of activities which include music and exercise therapies, various arts and crafts activities and bingo. Outings are made to places of local interest. There are regular visits from the chiropodist, hairdresser and the mobile library. We also have a club for residents that are keen on gardening.

Residents who already have a doctor in Downham Market will continue to receive care from their own doctor who will be happy to visit them if the need arises. Residents who have previously lived outside the Downham area will be able to register with one of the local practices.
